Is SSLW international?

Yes, it is. Presenters for the 2009 Symposium come from 24 different countries and regions--in addition to faculty and students from various countries who have institutional affiliations in the United States. The Symposium has been held in the U.S. and Japan, and in 2010, it will be held in Murcia, Spain. If your institution needs a letter certifying that the SSLW is indeed international, it is available in PDF format here.

When was the proposal deadline?

The proposal deadline was April 30, 2009. We are no longer accepting proposals for the 2009 Symposium. Please sign up for the SSLWLIST mailing list to receive announcements about future opportunities.

When will the proposal review results become available?

The results have already been sent out to corresponding authors. If you are listed as a co-author, please check with the corresponding author. The names of all presenters who have been accepted are also listed on the Presenters page.

What kind of technology will be available for presentation?

Each room will have a video projector or an LCD screen with a 15-pin VGA cable (for Windows computer; if you are planning to use a computer without a built-in VGA connection, please bring a video adapter) and RCA connection (please bring your own RCA cable). Please bring your own laptop or other AV equipment. (See Meeting Room Specifications.) Wireless Internet access is available throughout ASU Tempe Campus.

Which hotels do you recommend?

To be fair to participating hotels, we will not be able to answer this question. What we can tell you is that Twin Palms is the closest hotel to the Symposium site (Memorial Union). Four Points by Sheraton is about half a milie away; it is one of the most-recently-built hotels around ASU campus, and is also close to a light-rail station. Marriott Courtyard and Mission Palms are about a mile away, but they are located near the Mill Avenue District. If you are looking for inexpensive housing options, you will find several motels along the light rail on Apache.

Will there be a tote bag?

At this point, there is no plan to provide a tote bag. If you would like a Symposium tote bag or other goods that bear the Symposium logo, you can purchase them online.
